Frequently Asked Questions

What is meant by ‘travel baseball’?

LFBA’s baseball teams travel and compete against other community baseball teams along the North Shore. LFBA, as well as other teams in the Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League, are ‘community based travel baseball teams’ which means that ball players from each community are able to play the game of baseball with their friends and schoolmates during the summer while representing their community and competing against similar ‘community based travel teams’.

LFBA also serves as a ‘feeder’ baseball league to the Lake Forest High School’s baseball team.

When do games begin and how long is the travel season?

All of LFBA’s teams play in the Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League (LSFBL) in the summer. LSFBL’s season begins the first week of June and ends the last weekend in July with a Championship Tournament. Some age groups participate in area Tournaments, i.e. Memorial Day, Fourth of July or other summer tournaments during the season, in addition to the league games. The tournaments may vary depending upon age group and/or level. For more information on the LSFBL, you are invited to view their website: 11U and 12U teams also play in the MSBL Spring league. The MSBL is a very competitive league, and game play starts in April, and runs through June. MSBL will consist of an estimated 20 game season, plus end of year tournament.

Please note that all 8U-10U travel ballplayers are required to play in the Lake Forest Recreation Center’s Spring Baseball League. The Recreation Center’s Spring League begins the first weekend of April and finishes the first weekend of June.

How often are practices and games?

Generally speaking, teams practice one-two times/week and play one-two games/week. 8U, 9U,10U will play approx. 20-25 total games. 11U/12U will play 45-50 total games.

When and where do teams practice and play their games?

Weekday practices and games are typically in the evening (usually around 5:30 pm/6:00 pm). Weekend practices and games vary and can take place at any time, i.e. morning, afternoon or evening. It depends upon field availability, opponent’s scheduling, etc.

The 8U / 9U / 10U age groups typically practice/play their home games at West Park and Waveland Park. 11U and 12U teams will practice and play at Everett Park, and South Park. For away games, the field location is dependent upon the opponent’s fields and scheduling.

When will I know the results of the tryouts? How will I know if my ball player made a travel team?

Tryout results are usually known within one to two weeks and will be posted on the LFBA website.
